    OUR MISSION

    Principled. Proven.
    Experienced.
    Progressive.

Our mission is to make the Port work better for everyone, so that it can continue to support the region with lots of good paying, safe, jobs and also coexist peacefully in our rich natural environment, so that the orcas, salmon, seabirds, and other natural life can continue to call Tacoma home as well.

    Jeannette Twitty,

As a 35-year resident of Tacoma and the head of a minority-owned, woman-owned, and veteran owned, $2.5 million-dollar business, I believe I have the skills and experience, as well as the fiscal acumen required for the role of Port Commissioner. I am also the CEO of the House of Matthew, a non-profit dedicated to the acquisition of housing, education, and workforce development for residents in the region.

My corporate and non-profit endeavors have given me many opportunities to partner and engage with community businesses and organizations to enhance the economic health of our region. Working to provide more of our friends, family, and neighbors here in Tacoma and Pierce Country with access to good jobs with good wages has always been a top priority of mine.

I am a strong advocate of ensuring the values of equity and diversity in my business and in the region’s workforce. Workplace health and safety has always been a strong focus of mine as well, and it would continue to be as a Port Commissioner. Finally, I am familiar with the environmental impacts that any business or industry must consider in order to be successful, and I am committed to maintaining and improving the environmental health of the region.

The Port of Tacoma Strategic Initiatives include goals of focusing on the support of marine trade through land acquisition, living job and wage creation, land use and infrastructure development, concern for the environmental health of our port, and partnering with regional organizations.

I believe that my demonstrated commitment to the region will allow me to work together with other Commissioners to meet these goals.

IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE TACOMA!!
Jeannette Twitty, 60, co-owns a commercial cleaning business and helps lead a housing nonprofit for those at risk of homelessness. A 35-year Tacoma resident, Twitty has extra credibility on the local push for equity, diversity, and inclusion. If elected, she’d be the first Black commissioner in the Port’s 103-year history. -Tacoma News Tribune Wrote
